Les grew up in Chateaugay, NY, 1 mile from the Canadian border. She lived and worked on her family's dairy farm until she graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a BA in English Literature. The visual arts crept into her life in subtle but persistent ways– jewelry, handmade cards, hand-painted T-shirts and commissions from friends. This eventually led to a larger body of work that resulted in a series of gallery shows beginning in 2002. Her work encompasses various mediums, sizes and themes, yet Les' style and edge are ever-present.
